My work is freakishly laid back, particularly by Massachusetts standards. Those crazy Californians. So, in the morning, I'm not exactly rushing to get to work, because no one cares when I show up. The exception would be my early reference desk shifts. I have two shifts : Wednesday and Thursday, 8:30-10:30. So, when I actually have to get up in the morning and be somewhere at a particular time, I set my regular alarm clock and my cell phone alarm clock. This morning neither my regular alarm clock, set for 5:30, nor my cell phone alarm clock, set for 6:00, went off. My theory : gnomes. I like gnomes as much as the next person. They're adorable, although, slightly creepy. Even the word "gnome" is delightful. I enjoy the silent 'g'. It comes in handy when spelling out a word over the phone : G, as in gnome. But when they start f---ing around with my alarm clock(s), I take umbrage. They've messed with the wrong woman.
